CONSULTATIONS
Clear, compassionate guidance when you’re unsure what your child needs
A consultation gives you space to pause, breathe and make sense of what’s going on for your child. Many parents come to me when they’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to turn, or worried that something isn’t quite right. Whether you’re navigating learning concerns, emotional or behavioural changes, difficulties with school, or simply a sense that your child needs more support, a consultation offers clarity and direction at a time when everything can feel confusing.
What a consultation can help with
A consultation can be especially helpful if you are:
-
Unsure whether your child needs an EP assessment at this time
-
Trying to understand the SEN system, including EHCPs and how to advocate effectively
-
Feeling stuck in conversations with school or unsure how to move things forward
-
Worried about your child’s learning, friendships, behaviour or emotional wellbeing
-
Looking for practical strategies you can use at home
-
Wanting steady, ongoing support from someone who understands the challenges families face
It’s a chance to talk openly with someone who listens deeply, understands the system and can help you make sense of what you’re seeing.
What the process looks like
1. A warm, detailed conversation
Our first meeting lasts around 90 minutes and gives you the space to share your concerns, your child’s story and what life looks like at home and at school. Before we meet, you’ll complete a questionnaire so I can understand the key issues and make the best use of our time together.
2. Thoughtful guidance and problem-solving
Together, we explore what might be contributing to the difficulties you’re noticing. We think through possible pathways, discuss strategies for home, consider how to approach conversations with school, and explore whether an assessment would be helpful. My aim is to help you feel informed, grounded and more confident about your next steps.
3. A clear summary of next steps
After the consultation, you’ll receive a clear written summary of our discussion and an action plan. This gives you something concrete to refer back to and helps you move forward with clarity.
4. Ongoing support if you need it
Some families find one consultation is enough; others prefer to meet again as new questions arise. Follow-up sessions are usually an hour and can be arranged whenever you need them.
Why parents find it helpful
Parents often describe consultations as calming and reassuring. They offer:
-
Space to talk openly with someone who understands the SEN landscape
-
Clear, practical advice tailored to your child and your situation
-
Emotional support during times that feel uncertain or overwhelming
-
Confidence in the decisions you’re making and the conversations you’re having with school
Above all, consultations give you the chance to feel heard, supported and guided by someone who takes the time to understand your child and your family.
